SOUNDS OF DESIGN

DUKE'S DESIGN CENTRE | AMMAN, JORDAN | OCTOBER 2017

Held in conjunction with Amman Design Week (ADW) 2017 at the Duke's Design Centre in Amman, Jordan, Sounds of Design is an experimental sound exhibition that highlights the processes of creation across a number of design fields. An immersive space with a carefully designed sound system takes visitors on a journey through the sounds of materials, machines, human interactions, and other components that go into the creation of product in the industries of fashion, food and furniture design. By experiencing familiar creative fields through the medium of sound, visitors acknowledge the intricacies that go into the process of design.

By intimately following and recording each step of the design process, Sounds of Design creates a sonic experience made purely from sounds emitted by the tools used in the workshops of food, furniture and fashion designers participating in Amman Design Week (ADW) 2017: Nafsika Skourti, one of Jordan's top fashion designers, Namliyeh, an artisanal high-quality jam producer in Jabal Al Weibdeh, Amman and Shiraz Stores, a furniture shop that works with traditional Syrian and Jordanian Bedouin furniture.

This project goes hand in hand with movement, the theme of ADW 2017. It is an audible diary in which the process behind many of the featured products is recorded.
